Getting ready to start a new swap. Have the opportunity to pick up a 2000 4Runner 3.4 with auto (complete). Swap is going into a 1991 Extracab pickup - manual transmission.
I have a 1997 manual harness and ECM. Would this harness and ECM be compatible to the 2000 3.4 or should I just try to find a 2000 manual ECM and repin the 2000 harness?
This is not my first 3.4 swap, so the wiring does not bother me, I just don't know if I can use what I already have?

The connectors to the ECU are entirely different. They are not the sane and they index differently. Even the designations are different. I did a similar one using a 2000 mill and harness but a '98 ECU. You can keep the harness and just repin it for the '97 ECU. Find some connectors from the earlier model and swap them. Not a big deal. Get the ecu schematics from the Techinfo site and your good to go. You will have to jostle around the front O2 wiring for the standard type of sensor because the 2000 uses an A/F sensor. Grab a plug for that too and just swap the pins.
Your call. If you want a 2000 ECU it will make things a bit easier. Find one cheap on Car-part.com.

The other option, which I think you're asking about, is to completely remove the 2000 harness from the engine (and basically throw it away/sell it/whatever), then attach the 97 harness (that you already have) to the 2000 engine block.

It would be a good idea to check the various sensors on the 2000 motor (which aren't removed with the harness, like cam/crank sensors) and verify that their part numbers are compatible with the 1997 ECU. For example, when I switched from a 96 ECU to a 97 ECU, there was one EVAP sensor that had a different part number between the 2 applications, even though both looked like they worked.

Thanks 69 and SacRunner, this is the information that I was asking about. I figured that I could use the 1997 harness and ECM but was concerned as to whether or not all of the plugs and/or sensors would be the same as the 2000 engine.
I had figured that the 2000 ECM would be the best way to go, but I have had the 1997 harness/ECM for a while and thought it would be worth asking about.
I will probably just look for an ECM to work with the 2000.

I have taken and 92 pickup with 3.0 and put a 1995 pickup 3.4 engine both manual that's no biggy.. My issue is the wiring harness, what is the easiest way to swap the plugs? Thanks for any help, I'm dieing to finish this project

Greir, swapping plugs is relatively easy but time consuming. You must take the time and care to make sure that each and every pin is moved to the location on the new plug that is called out on your EWD for that particular plug.
This is very well covered by dntsdad in his thread "It had officially begun..." and is worth the read - all 10 or so pages.
I would recommend reading all of the "stickies" and thru some of the larger swap threads as there is a wealth on information to be gained in the process.
