I am swapping a 3.4 (was auto) into my 95' 4Runner 5spd 3.0. I recently purchased an ECU but it is for an auto not a manual. I read you have to "trick" the ECU, anyone know about this?

Also, are all the wiring harnesses the same from auto to 4x4? I assume they are but i don't know.

My final question is, can I use my stock transfercase? I don't see why i couldn't but i read a few posts where people said you have to change it to a transfercase that came out of a 3.4.

the ecu needs to match your motors electronics. The only trick I am aware of is jumping the park/neutral safety switch to read neutral.
There is no reason to use a 3.4 t case. You're using your trans and transfercase.

Much appreciated man! I was just going to send you a PM but you already answered my questions.

But what do you mean "to match your motors electronics"? Also i got a wiring harness from a 3.4 i'm not sure if it is auto or manual, i punched the part number into ToyotaPartsZone.com and all it gave me was that it's a wiring harness for a 3.4, it didn't say manual or auto. Is there a difference in harnesses?

With regard to "matching your motors electronics", the harness and pin locations differ from year to year. In other words if you have a motor from a 97, you need a wiring harness and ecu from the same, otherwise you will be cutting and splicing a lot of wires and reading even more of the wiring schematics just to make it work. Each year has its little nuances.

Sorry to hear that your wiring harness didn't work. I have a bunch at home. I will check what I have. I may have a 97 manual wiring harness laying around. What year are your motor and ecu?

Oh and i need a harness and ECU from a 1998 4Runner 4x4 M/T not 1997.
