Windshield washer pump problems

Long story short:

Both pumps (front and back) are not working.

The long story.

When the front pump went dead, I switched the fluid tubes so the back pump now powered the front jets and I just went with out washer fluid on the back window.

Well now the back pump has stopped and I now need to replace both or at least one. Fuses are all good. I replaced one of the pumps (the ‘top’ one) today with a pump from PARTSOURCE (a Canadian equivalent of AUTOZONE) but still not working.

Ideas?

Would I be better to buy a pump from the dealership? (this aftermarket pump needed some wire splicing in order to properly connect up and is lacking the brackets to fasten it to the plastic resevoir)

I'm a newbie so I'm probably way off here...but on my '95 4Runner neither pumps work, nor the rear wiper, and neither does the windshield wiper delay because apperently something in the steering column stopped functioning (pumps and rear wiper have no power getting to them), maybe your problem could be similar? Not to hijack but if anyone knows how to fix my problem please please pass it on

I've still got wipers but no fluid. I'm worried there might be a break in the wiring somewhere and I'd rather replace the pump where it is fairly easy to get at...

As for the steering column relay... I had an old geo where I needed to replace both the wiper/washer and the head light/turn signal switches that both came off of the column.

It was a pretty straight process of pulling off the steering wheel (I did not have to deal with AIRBAGS - I would be extremely wary if you do.) and dismantling the column - but that was on a Geo.

The price of the replacement part was expensive - I would check out a wrecker.
