Tweaks for Better Fuel Economy

Was wondering if anybody here has done any tweaking to their t100 to get better gas mileage. I'm getting about 17-18 mpg mostly highway mileage. Considering my 96 t100 has 298k miles thats pretty good. I have considered chipping it and replacing plugs and leads as well as possibly getting a stronger distributor. Just wanted to hear what you guys have to say about the subject.

The biggest mod you can make is with your right foot. Don't put it to the floor. Otherwirse, there is not much you can do outside of a really good tune up.

Don't chip it, they just fool your engine to either richen the fuel mixture or lean it out, both of which are bad for your engine and have different side effects.

I went from 14-16 mpg to 17-18 mpg just by accelerating smoother. I had a feeling in my gut that chipping couldn't be good especially on a high mileage engine. Thanks for your input though.

alcohol injection....trust me.... best mod besides the supercharger for both power and fuel economy. I run 50/50 mix of dH2O and methanol

So far I've done a K&N filter and new NGK plugs. And went from high 14's to mid 18's last I checked. Still planning to find the 2 more mpg to get to 20 or better.

What are you using your truck for? If it is a highway commuter the best way to get better fuel economy is to trade it for a Civic! Otherwise you kind of just have to accept that its a truck and you trade fuel millage for other capabilities. Just my 2 cents.

I guess you have a 4WD? Have you considered manual hubs?

You could make yer own aero cap like I did...

I use my truck currently and am working on better mileage in it because it currently is all I have that I can use for my 50mi commute as my wife now has a job and needs her Aveo. However, I am working on building my Jetta, its just taking longer than expected (big surprise with a project.)

Few things:

*Get a stick shift, when coming to a stop leave it in gear, you're not using gas this way. The engine's compression is keeping it going.
*Get a cover for your bed for when it's not in use
*Adjust your brakes and make sure they're not making contact when not in use thus causing brake drag.
*Accelerate from a stop slowly and don't punch it, you'd be surprised how much this helps.
*Know your route. You've lived in your neighborhood for a while, know which lights take longer than others...if you know the particular light you're coming to takes a while to change, turn off the ignition! Another one that will surprisingly let you go that extra mile
*You're driving a truck so this one may seem stupid, but lose the weight. Anything you're lugging around that you don't need and can afford to leave behind at home, do so. It's only costing you more gas to move more mass.
*Not sure about this one but get smaller tires/rims/wheels. Lighter ones will definitely help though.
*Clean out your throttle body, especially if you do mostly highway driving, fairly easy and simple to do too!
*Keep up your maintenance!
*Try to stick to the highway instead of streets

All I can think of at the moment, anyone else care to chime in or correct me?
