OK, I intend to remove the mechanical fan on my Runner. and use one or 2 aftermarket electric ones. on my DD subaru, I've got a sweet automatic, temp-sensing relay that has a little sensor attached to the radiator. I'd like to also run a manually switched relay before that one so I can override that so the fan(s) are turned off during water crossings. that part is easy...

but I'd like to also wire an indicator light, so I don't forget and leave the fan off after leaving the water. so I'd have an on-off rocker switch on the dash, with a little LED (12voltguy.com has a cool flashing one!) that comes ON when the switch is turned OFF.

how would a guy go about doing this? is it way harder than it's worth?

Use a normally closed relay to turn the fan off, that way you'll actually be turning the switch ON to turn the fan OFF. Applying power to a normally closed realy opens it and breaks the main circuit. Then you could just use a switch with a light to indicate the fan is OFF. The other advantage of this is if the relay happens to fail it'll stay closed, and your fan will still work.

Hey, 4Crawler.......any chance we could get a wiring diagram for the 4runner SPDT switch setup.......Up, auto....center, off....down, on.
I have a Taurus fan wired up with a hayden 180 degree t-stat controller....but my wiring knowledge limited me to a SPST switch wired to the A/C lead.....down, auto....up, always on.....

I can follow wiring diagrams...I just don't know where to start. Any help greatly appreciated.
