So, I've been reading online about numerous people converting the Hella 500's to HID bulbs, it just requires drilling a hole in the back to accommodate the longer bulb and wires.

Well I got my Hellas in the mail today and found that the bulb latch is different.

Did Hella recently change their design?

First pic is the old design, which allowed the HID bulb to be installed because the latch grabbed sound the sides of the bulb

Second pics are of the Hellas I got today. The latch clips right over the back of the bulb. HID bulb wont fit, its longer and the wires come right off the back.

Anyone know where to get the old Hellas (if thats the solution) and is there a way of knowing if your ordering the old design...?

(I posted this in the replys to the write up but I figured a new thread would be better than going off topic on the othe post and it was several pages deep already.....)

You still can modify it, I did with my 700 ff it had the new style latch, I just took the original clip design from an old fog light with an H3 bulb and copied the bends using some hard bailing wire and a needle nose pliers.
