Gas gauge and Temp Gauge, 88 4x4
So I finally got my 88 4x4 running, (needed a new fuel pump) anyway. I only have probably 2-3 gallons in it for the moment, so I'm just wondering how low that would show my gas gauge. I want to know if there is some way to test if my gas gauge is working, besides just putting more gas in it and starting her up. >.<
Also, my temp gauge...I don't think it's working either. My speedometer works just fine save for it bobbling a little bit when I drive down this bumpy dirt road I live off of, but the temp gauge doesn't seem to move at all, and I think it should have at least lifted a bit when I was doing a constant 30 down this dirt road.
Should the gauges move at all when I turn the truck on, or anything like that? And if it seems they aren't working how do I diagnose/fix this problem.
Also, if there's any sort of EASY way to install a tach I'd like to know about it.
I'm pretty clueless about working on this truck. Everything I can do I just...read it out of a haynes manual lol so yeah.

Im just guessing here, but with only 2-3 gallons of gas in the tank it would probably be on empty or just a hair above it. As for the temp gauge not working, try replacing the sending unit, they can go bad and cause the temp gauge to read wrong or not at all, the temp sensor is a cheap part to buy, the last one i bought was around 12 dollars.
Were is Cottonwood located ?.

The sending unit? Where is this located? And is that it's full name or is it like the "temperature sending unit" or whatever?
I think I noticed today that the gas gauge might be just a hair above empty, (at least, it's higher then what the temp gauge was at, and that was bottomed out, so it has to be reading something)
Cottonwood is located in northern California. Between Red Bluff and Redding. It's about 25 minutes south of Redding.

There are two temperature sensors, on a 22RE, one is for the temperature gauge and the other one is used by the computer to tell the engine temperature. On an 88 22RE im not sure were the temp gauge sending unit is located.

Damn. Oh well. Haynes Manual will tell me.
Just in case the gas gauge is , how would I replace that?
would that mean replacing the fuel sending unit in the gas tank? would you know? I know that the sending unit assembly has a floater...thing..on it.
