whats wrong with it?

i was driving my truck and i was approaching a stop light. i down shifted to 2nd gear and the rear tires locked and skidded for a second. after stopping at the light i noticed my truck was not running. the started my truck and it stalled instantly. i started it again and as soon as i let off the gas it stalled again. i started it and stayed on the gas to keep it running.

i've adjusted the idle so i can continue to drive it but does anyone have any idea whats wrong with this thing?

Check your brake booster hose. It may be loose or cracked causing a vacuum leak. Makes you engine struggle to run at idle and your brakes not work right.

when you downshift and drop the clutch too quickly, causing the rear wheels to chirp, you're doing a "compression lockup". i used to think this was fun to do with the company truck (a mazda b2000) when i was a stupid teenager. unfortunately its apparently a good way to blow a motor. could you get it running again at all?

if you're not a serious wrencher, get that thing checked out for broken t-chain to start, do a compression check, etc. good luck.

You really wont notice the difference untill you fix the the vac leak. I was more thinking that because of the problem with your idle, so it's still a good thing to take a look at.

I've had the same EXACT thing happen to me(hard downshift), and the brake booster hose had backed off the fitting on the brake booster housing. I pushed it back down and that fixed that.
