Performance 2RZ/3rz

Has anyone here rebuilt their RZ and upgraded cams, TB, intake etc. to get more performance? Looking for feedback on gains in performance. Not interested in turbo or SC add-ons.

The key to the performance upgrades on these engines is tuning with a piggyback. Otherwice the Ecu will just get confused especially building n/a. I have done CAI and full exhaust with headers on my 3rz and the gains are noticeable....but you can tell I'm running rich so it needs to be tuned. I'm looking at the apexi piggyback but haven't gotten to the 500 pricetag yet. Its going to cost you a pretty penny but all of the opening up of the air is setting you up for a stage 2 or 3 cam and upgraded head. $$$$$$ but I think the results would be well worth seeing though. Liter for liter the 3.4 is weaker than the 2.7 and the mileage comparison is hilarious as well IMO.

More flow

I'm lost, you increase available air and allow better exhaust escape and you run rich? I always remember things running leaner when you allowed better flow?
So no one has done this build up thing on the RZ's? This somewhat suprises me since so many guys tweak on their 22r's.

Yes because the ecu sees the O2 sensor maxed for air intake and puts out the maximum amount of fuel even when you are not utilizing that much fuel. When you floor it the opposite happens. The fuel is maxed well before your right foot is to the floor.

To combat this you need a piggy back and wide band O2. The piggy back is pretty much there to tell the ecu how much fuel to output at the given throttle position and hides the actual amount of air your intake provides.

Most of the reason that people do not tweak the 3rz like the 22r is because of cost.
A well built 3rz from LC Engineering or another performance company (Paradise Racing?) is pretty high and the work required to get more out of it can more easily be attained through an engine swap. I agree that the 3rz is a great engine. After the piggyback is in place a good stage 2/3 NA build is possible. I think after that you need stand alone with full tuning capabilities. You can pull TONS of power out of it....the cost is high though.

There's a stage 3 head and cam set on LC that I would love to see in a build and hear in person. I'm sure it's amazing.

No carbs

Figured it was some kind of electro-technic-ecu-O2-injector thing. I miss 4bbls, but not points and condensors. Thanks by the way.

NP. I was the opposite since I picked up a 22r with a 32/36 after my 2/3rz engine knowledge lol. The 22r can be pricy too though and tuning them with a wrench is about as foriegn to me as tuning with only a computer would be for you I imagine.

The guys from lc provide the engine for the scion pro drag car. You can call it a 3rz if you like but it is around 1800hp with boost.....YouTube it. They wouldn't give me a price quote on the engine lol.
