Do bigger tires kill auto trannys?
My question is simple but i am a newbie and i dont know the answer. I just bought a 97 tacoma with a 6 inch lift and 33s, there is room to put 35 inch tires, so i want to, but my question is, will this wear out the automatic transmission faster? Any imput is appriciated. Thanks, Steve

Yes, more work for the tranny especially when it's busy gear hunting trying to get the max power to turn the wheels, that's why it's necessary to regear and it would also be a good idea to invest in a tranny cooler.

Are we talking some kind of additice to the tranny fluid, or actually and aftermarket part that is somehow linked with the tranny to cool fluid?
and if i am only driving occasionally, can i expect my auto tranny to die very quickly? 104k on the truck now, or would it be over a long time?
i cant afford to regear right now. Any more input? should i scrap the 35s?

Does it have stock gears in it now? You'll need to know before you make a decision. I would go with 5.29s for gears. If it already has 4.88s then you might be ok. if not, def. regear first.

its got the stock gears in now, i think they are 4.10s, so if i do this, is it that much worse going from 33s to 35s? What is the timeframe of how long my tranny will last. And what is the price difference between re gearing front and rear, vs. a tranny rebuild with labor. Thanks, Any more info?

Tranny cooler is like a mini radiator to cool your transmission fluid.
35's and automatic NEEDS 5.71 (actually lower, but there aren't any for Toy axles).
Stick with the 33's til you can afford to regear (which is a good time to do lockers too!)

typical gearing for the auto is 4.30. You can look at the little plaque inside the engine compartment and decode the rear end code to find out for sure.
