Cheap mods: Air tank (and cargo area carpet removal) < $30
You can actually pull this mod off for around $20, but I managed to spend about $30 thanks to some extras I wanted (coil air line, fittings, fill attachment).
The idea is to pick up a 7-gallon 125psi max press Cambell Hausfield air tank from your local Wal-Mart. It should be priced under $20. You can actually use it as-is right out of the box (after filling it of course), but I wanted to go with something a little more user-friendly. I picked up a yellow coil air line, fittings, and a fill attachment. Considering I had a couple fittings already, I spent about $30 total on this mod.
I just got Oasis Tire Deflators, so I figured I better get something to air up with. I only air down to 20 - 25 usually. My tire size is 265/75/16. I can air up to 35psi in less than 5 minutes with this set up. The tank only weighs about 10lbs and it's easy to transport in and out of the vehicle. For the weekend warrior, this is a good set up. It can be mounted to the floor via wingnuts, or just plain strapped down. I chose the latter because I have a lot of camping stuff.
To remove the cargo carpet, you just have to cut carefully along the base of the back seats. I also "clocked" the cargo hoops 90 degrees. Totally quick and easy. I left the OEM rubber mat in place.
Here are some pics:
The tank has to be filled via your home compressor or at a gas station. I had the chance to use this set-up last weekend for a camping trip. For the budget-minded weekend wheeler or camper, this is great to have. I also picked up some tire plugs for $3. I refuse to get stranded!

I removed the carpet for a few reasons:
1. Something ate a chunk of it off (acid or something)
2. The carpet was filled with dust
3. With the pad, it weighed at least 10 lbs, if not more
4. I don't need it to be comfortable back there
5. It makes mounting things to the floor much easier
I should also note that the carpet will go right back into place and it could be theoretically hand-stitched back down. I saved it and put it up in the attic.

I have thought about this before, I dont have to have a compressor on board, but it is nice to carry on board air. This could easily bolt in the bed of a pickup as well, for us Taco owners. Thanks for the inspiration.

I dont even want to consider how much all this costs..
Dual air compressors with remote controled power on/off
home grown 4air system
10 and 7 gallon tanks
as to not hijack this thread... see new thread for details

Cool, glad you guys like it. By the way, the yellow cord and fittings are not a necessity. You can literally buy this tank from Wal Mart as is and use it - as long as you have a place (or device) to fill it up with.
Again I stress the importance of not getting too over-zealous with filling each tire; you most likely won't be able to get each tire from 20 to 35. I can only manage 32 into each tire (from 20) before it runs out of air (pressure equalizes).
