I've got a major oil leak coming out from the oil pump. When the truck is running you can watch the oil run out to the bottom right bolt and drip off. Of course everything underneath is covered with blow back from driving around. These oil pumps are pretty simple and I'm wondering do these ever go bad or would it just be the seals?

yes they do go bad, sounds like its time for u to replace.

It is the original pump. Looking at them, I really wasn't sure if they did. Guess I'll look around for one thanks.

I just replaced a Rock oil pump on my 82. There was a very slight drip from the bottom where the pump meets the timing cover. I pulled it and ran a bead of permagasket in the grove and put it back on. A week later it leaked in the same spot again
I Just sent it back to Engine Builder. I am almost certain that pump was warped/bad.

Alright, I guess I'll stay away from Rock. I found one for $48. I have a Rock timing kit and haven't had issues with that yet, knock on wood. Guess I'll look around some more.

I have a Rock pump on my 94. It's been on there for over 3 years without a minutes trouble. I have replaced oil pumps on buddies of mine with Rock and they haven't had any problems. I think the one on my 82 was a bad one from the factory. Rare for those but it happens.
I would say stay with Rock.

I had the seal go out and it puked out a lot of oil fast. Even the chilton type manual tells you how to check the pump for wear.
