Another Opinion Thread - Paint Colors
Alright guys, looking for opinions on colors for my beater. Basically I'm going to practice body work on this piece of crap and do a cheap DIY paint job. I'm open to all ideas but the two I'm liking so far are black or green. I haven't decided on flat or gloss yet. Below are some crappy renderings and I'll do more if enough people recommend a certain color. Oh and ignore the retarded black back end...that was the previous owner's genius idea.

or the red version:
but black with the later style stripes in silver, like a "negative image" of THIS also looks great on this truck:
HERE'S AN IDEA: a paint scheme like the top two, but with black for the blue, dk. and lt. grey stripes, and silver for the hood/roof. i think that would be very unique!
and this green looks good too, not too dark but not too bright:
here's a cool two-tone scheme i've not seen too often,
i "borrowed" these images so my apologies if they eventually vanish.

I'm on the fence about the chrome wheels but I picked them up for $50 on Craigslist so painting them black isn't out of the question. A little paint stripper and I could easily get them back to chrome too if I wanted. I have two sets of black steelies for my '90 but my beater is 2wd (5 lug).

I only paid $500 for the truck lol, plus $50 for wheels (already had the tires) and $100 for the body lift. I'm liking those ideas but I'm probably going to stick to a solid color for simplicity and cost.

As for the beater...I've had a few people look at it and go 'whoa IFS...ohhh I get it' hahaha. I picked it up on the cheap for a parts runner when my '90 is getting loved on. I agree on the black being pretty common. Gloss black would look good but it would show how bad I am at bodywork haha. Oh and I'm currently in the Spingfield/Eugene area...was over in Bend for about 4 years and would move back in an instant if I had the chance.
Thanks for the replies guys, keep em coming!

Super cheap would be the Rustoleum foam roller paint job. Spend less than 100 for the entire job. I say the greem with the lower area like a two tone in black. Green on the emtire truck in flat or satin then black in gloss. It will leave it subtle and you will get some easy masking practice for the lower area. Leave the rims chrome....my 2¢

Most of you probably know how much of a PITA choosing a paint color/scheme is so I really appreciate the replies everyone! As far as the 'scheme' aspect goes, I may repeat the current black accents (in the body lines) with the exception of the stupid black rearend (which has since been deleted by more grey primer), but I'm trying to stick to a solid color, no two-tones, etc.. Thanks again!

actually man, bedlining the whole truck may not be that expensive because you can do it in your yard. have you seen this thread?
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...beware-198079/
he said about $250 covered it all. made me think twice about doing it too!
also, if you're concerned about gloss paint showing bad body work, go with white or tan, and do all your trim in black. the high contrast will make imperfections less noticeable.

Yea I've looked through it...it would be awesome but I'm just going for cheap paint. I've never done bodywork but I'd like to think it won't turn out horrible. I am really liking the idea of gloss white, however. I'll do another rendering with black wheels in a bit.
