99 4Runner Leaky Rims

My 99 4Runner seems to have constant air pressure loss in the tires. I have to even out and put air in about once every 2-3 wks. Anyone else having this problem? Any easy fixes without causing other issues.

If it is alloy rims, then yes they can leak. I have had a couple that have had a slow, steady leak.

When I got new alloys for my '85, I took the time to clean the inside surface of the rims then sprayed on 2-3 coats of clear polyurethane on the inner surfaces of the rim to seal them up before I mounted the tires. They hold air perfectly now.

If removing the tires is too much work or money, you can dump in 8 oz. or so of tire sealant. Pour it in and slosh it around to get it all over the inner part of the wheel. That is what I ended up doing, at the recommendation of the place I bought the aforementioned leaky wheels from. It worked fine and caused no other problems.

fix-a-flate.... LMAO You'll never get your tires balanced perfectly again. But I suppose that its better than getting flats all the time

I used a liquid sealant that you pump into the valve stem from a big bottle, not the stuff in an aerosol can. Never had any balancing issues. I think the best solution though is to seal the inner surface of the wheel with a clear polyurethane coating.

XPY, what kind of tires do you have. I work at a tire shop, and ive seen it more times than i can remember, manufacturers (i work with bfg, goodyear, michelin and dunlop) will put a bar code sticker directly somewhere on the bead. many times these will cause a very slow leak. i just break the bead, throw some bead sealer on there, pump the tire back up and call it a day. this might be your case. also, if you have used fix a flat, that stuff corrodes rims.

Spray tire Whitewall cleaner on the bead area. It will foam up at the smallest air leaks.
