wire harness swap: 22R to 3.0 v6 conversion

I am in the dead center of dropping a 1989 v6 engine swap on a 1987 r22 Toyota 4x4. I am OK with all of it as far as the work goes , i am excellent at " building a bracket" . With this in mind i am wondering if there is an "adaptor" for connecting the computer/engine wire harness with the 1989 3.0 v6 to the 1987 r22 under dash harness. If this adaptor does exist it would save me months of researching wire diagrams to blend the two. Not saying i can't do it, just not looking forward to it as i am trying to do this in a shorter amount of time (before it gets cold).
Thanks a heap guys !
Really digg'n this site!!!!

What made you decide to do this conversion?
The 3.0 v6 was not known to be one of Toyota's better ideas. Most folks would have gone with a 3.4..much better resources available-

3.4 is much better choice than that other motor by far.

Lol Well it is like this, my old 89 was showing signs of years but the v6 still ran like a champ, the front end was shot, the interior was a mess, the chassie wiring was scary at best, and plus all the body damage. (it was a target for drunk drivers, but only when parked)
Aaaaaand my bro in law had the 87 just sitting, no engine/trany, sooooo.
There i go...

Red face

I understand there is no adapter .

There is no easy way but you do need the ecu for the 3.0

some times even things for free turn out very expensive!!!

Good luck

If you are ok with making new mounts, changing wire harness isnt as bad as it may seem. You will need to remove the front fenders and dashpad and some ventilation pipes but it is all assembled easy and the harness is able to be seperated. I would do that then trying to make all of the connections. Hit me up on a PM if you want a better detail instructions on swapping harnesses.

Fenders come off easy enough and I have a dashpad removal video on listed on the first page of my 88 Runner build. I am not as familiar with the 3.0 harness, but am guessing it is just as easy as swapping and seperates the same way. Just thinking if you are going to do it, do it right or you could wind up with electrical gremlins.

You will want an ECU from a manual vehicle. Auto ECU with manual trans will give a CEL and may affect some of the engine parameters. Or I could be crazy and it'll just give a CEL. Check in the Engine Swap section. Lots of info there on 3.4s

Edit: I'm retarded and didn't remember OP was doing 3vz swap. Question for STJ is--are you dealing with 3.0 or 3.4?
