So after I got my bumper line-x'd way too thick, 3/4in clevis pins are no where close to fitting through my shackle carriers on my bumper. Will a 5/8 in shackle 5,000lb max be okay for winching and snatch blocks? I mean the math adds up no sweat, but Id rather have some knowlegeable guys reassure me...

Think about how much your truck weighs with all off road gear, passengers, recovery equipment, camping supplies, etc and see what your total is then....

Remember that 5k lbs is your MAXIMUM


A general rule of thumb for any recovery effort is to use equipment that is rated 1.5 times over what you need....

No, 5000lb rated won't be safe.
Simply drill out the shackle carrier holes enough for the clevis pins to fit.
How tough can that be ?

...Tougher than you think. I measured the pin today and its actaully 7/8ths thick, but it is marked right on it as 3/4. I definitely dont have a bit that large and my drill would have a hard time cutting through inch thick metal on the carrier.

I guess thats my best option though. Thanks for the info, guys!

There are 3/4" pin shackles with smaller diameter bows. I forget the exact load rating, but it is much closer to a "regular" 3/4 shackle than going down in pin size.

*EDIT* We can close this discution cuz I just found some 5/8" shackels w/ a 5 ton WLL, which is more than safe. Thanks


Can you clarify that more? My pin is the issue here; its too big. Do you mean the bow and pin are smaller or just the bow?

After looking around on the interweb, it looks like all the 3/4" shackles have 7/8" pins. Does anyone know where I can find a 3/4" shackle with a 3/4" pin?
