Eff that.
We loaded RTV on both sides of every gasket on my timing cover, except the top.
Havent had a single issue yet, and i guarantee it's held on better than with just a paper gasket.

I don't know about you or the O.P. but my rock timing set came with a silicone gasket as opposed to a paper one. I think I remember using a very very thin coat of RTV on the timing cover gasket just enough to hold it in place now that I think about it.

the 3rd and most recent time with the head off has yielded NO leaks whatsoever.

Mine doesn't leak either. Now the oil pan gasket is another story. Stupid me put the dang pan gasket that came in the kit on along with some rtv and well......

lol.
when i pulled my head, we found a copper shim, i forgot about that.
fyi, if you're doing the tchain, check for any shims. they get bent pretty easily.

22RE engine is a non interference motor
I didn't take head off nor oil pan. Took all bolts out, but left in holes to not get mixed up. I took a 2x4 and tapped to get it loose and it just fell out for me. My question is the bolt that's under the distributor in front of the head. It's stripped. Can I retap it and put a bigger bolt in its place as long as it's the same length and not much bigger than what the stock is? Everything in my 85 22RE engine is new but piston and rings.
