rear window not working
well, as the title states, my rear window is not working, I have gone through and got all the plugs and everything attached, the saftey plug for the roof bolt works, if I unplug the motor and hotwire it to the battery I can get it up and down, just very frustrated at this point so I have a few pics maybe I'm missing something obvious...
and some wires I have no clue where they go or come from
also this is all in a 1988 4runner...probably should have mentioned that first...any input would be greatly apprieciated

Here is a link to my 88s build. I am currently adding more to it, but it should get yu going in the right direction.

Check out the FSM..page 1465 and 1466 show the rear power window relay. It also controls the rear wiper/washer.

When I first got my 4runner (also when I was 16) I just ruled out all factory electronics and wired in a 3 way switch and a push button from the battery to the back window. Nothing else worked but the windows at least rolled up and down . I kept it like that until I had gained some knowledge and fixed it right and re-soldered the whole window relay board. Been working great since!

It will be the bigger one that says "Power window" on it. There are only so many things that it can be. Battery to your fuse, to your switch, to your lock switch, to your relay, to your safety switch, to your door lock detection switch, and then to your window.
Grab a multimeter, take a look at the FSM and it will map out how its wired and you can just check off as you go.

Thanks guys..I tried to make my 88s build something to help troubleshoot things. I have a blue 86, and moved some of the things I have found on it to the 88. I have several other problems listed on the first page of the 88.
I have been wanting to do more updates and you guy made me get off of my backside and add to it. I remember being where you are at now. If you still have some problems, just reach me through PM.

my rear window in my '93 stopped working also earlier this month. I've had the relay upgrade on the back burner for a while, now I need to do it; only issue is that I have different relays than 4crawler's writeup and most folks on here... may have to fab up a new housing if the new relays won't fit correctly onto the circuit board.
a new unit is like $370 or something ridiculous like that, jeez.
what a pain in the neck....

well, finally got it fixed, turns out it was the switch in the rear wiper. something is not working correctly in the wiper assembly so it doesn't hit the switch at all, but with a little ingenuity and a zip tie I got the switch in perma pushed mode...even the rear key switch works

Nice job sticking with it! Yeah I wasn't thinking about that one. If the rear wiper is down too far the window will not work. My wiper used to never stay up by itself and fall just far enough to where I can roll up the window then not come down until I move the wiper back up. Pesky gremlins!
