Any ideas or proven methods to peeling the decals of the sides of a 4Runner ? The truck I recently bought (in my avitar) has the side decals half peeled off and I want to remove the rest.

I've only done this once before, and that was when I removed TOYOTA from the tailgate on my '90 pk. I used a hair dryer and small plastic putty knife and took my time. There are some other posts on here dealing with this topic. Try searching around.

I dont know how well this would work for a side graphic but they work wonders on pin striping and vinyl decals. Its basically a rubber eraser that you put in your drill. A link to and example... http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydepot/adhremove.aspx check those out. If you have a automotive paint store around they would most likely have them. Hope it helps...

goo-gone works really good with a little heat and a plastic putty knife as stated above.

and wd-40 works really well and no it will not hurt your paint/ clear coat

take your time and if you turn a 5 gallon bucket upside done to sit on it is almost the perfect hight for that kind of work

Thanks for the input, I'll be starting to remove them on monday. The truck was originally from Florida so the decal are quite dry (sun baked) and don't peel to easy. I've tried picking up an edge and peeling with out heat and I get very tiny little pieces. So I'll be trying the blow dryer and various chemicals.

get a drier and heat up the sticker in small patches starting at one side and pull it off slowly as you heat it up...

Well for really bad bumper stickers I take a soaked towel and an iron to heat the sticker way up. Peels off pretty easy if you get it hot enough.

This is what you want to use right here. The 3M stripe removal wheel. Works great on the old body striping. Way easier and faster than the hair dryer/scraping/chemicals.

^^^^ He is right. The 3M is really good I hear. Try the other method first, maybe it will work. But if not, fall back on that bad boy.

anyone experiencing "fresh paint" stripes after removing the decals? Mine have been on for 13 years and my runner is black. although the paint is in great shape...this california sun has baked those decals on....will there be stripes from where the decals have been? I like the look of no decals and was thinking about taking them off...but DO NOT want there to be evidence of them once being there./

any advice of own experiences?

Do not use goo gone or the power washer.At the body shop we use a rubber buffer wheel on a die grinder.Its a soft rubber wheel,and takes decals right off.Then we buff the side of the vehicle. I just did my 93 4runner and did all the body work in fiberglass.No glue marks at all.goo off can damage the paint,and the power washer also.

the rubber easer works awesome. in the drill and go. I used mise for the sunset stripes around the whole truck, took 20 mins and the paint isn't damaged at all.

We use it all the time.Then go back and buff the side,and its clean.

Hopefully you have some buffing skills....

Your paint, like the decals, has been sun faded over time.
The paint underneath the decal will be completely unfaded and unscratched.
That will make it very easy to see where the decal once was.

Nothing a thorough session with the wool pad won't take care of

You work at a body shop? Then maybe you can help me. I have one complete side off and all of the glue (used the 3M wheel), but on the other side I only have the front half off. Apparently some part of the back half was repainted and clear coat was sprayed all over, thus the decals on the back half have clear coat over them...how am i supposed to remove them now?

Sure it was clear coated?You cant feel the edge of the decal with your fingernail?

Yeah i'm positive. The edge is there, but its smooth and more like a bump and the decal is shiny on that side
