Over heating on 4x4

Hello I'm new to this Toyota I have a 1991 Toyota extended cab I took it Offroading a couple times and it keeps over heating and it only does when I put it on 4x4 low or high any body knows what might be the problem please help
The previouse owner that had it gave me paper work that engine was rebuilt I don't know if that has something to do with it
And it's cold right now where im at I see the needle going to heat before it gets to red I turn it off I wait like 5 min and it starts cooling down and I want to keep Offroading in the summer I'm just afraid it will take longer to cool down since it will be hot outside
Please help

Maybe the extra work from turning the front end and climbing obstacles is getting to it. Check the thermostat....check the cooling system for bubbles...maybe flush it out. Check radiator fins....cooling fan...try running the heater on high next time too. Check temp sensor? Maybe when its warmed up or hot feel the lower hose....see if its the same as the upper..should be cooler though. Like cool to touch.

Thank You I will check for this next time and I did have my heater on but like on the first level but I noticed it was getting really hot inside like if I had it full blast and I just turn it off

So the heater does work good? Cause the heater core and all that is part of the cooling system...core could be plugged up. Just process of elimination.

Anytime man...thats why we are all here!! Welcome to the YT Family!!
