Mpg 22re - 3.4l

I am getting around town about 20mpg, can get 22mpg if I am really easy in my 87 22RE with a 5 speed. If I was to swap in a 97 3.4L 5 speed, how much do you think my MPG would change and which way????????

Moved to the Newbie Tech Section.

The section you originally posted this in was a Build-Up Section which is reserved for threads dedicated to a complete build-up of a vehicle.

I agree w/Tofer. You will LOSE 3-5mpg going to a 3.4! My '98 X-cab 4x4(3.4/auto) on 255/65/16's is doing good to get 18-19mpg. I guess power takes fuel. Pick your poisen..22RE for good gas mileage(but barely enough power to keep up w/traffic) or 3.4 for "decent" power(enough to actually pass traffic & pull a trailer, etc) + give up 3-5mpg..even more w/ a supercharger.Sleepr71.

Red face

With the 3.4 you will have your foot in it more only because you can.

I don`t think I ever checked the mileage on any of my Toyota`s

My 60 year old father struggled to get 20 with his 3.4. Then again, he also struggled to keep a straight face, as he would shamelessly lead-foot all over the county. Also, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that his 98 Tacoma is actually lighter than your 87.
