Japan engines
#5
They are Jap crate engines, brought here to america. Technically, they are Illegal for on-road use because they are not emission compliant.
Read the fine print of the sale, you will see what I mean.
And their "low mileage" claim is false as well. SOME of the engines have low miles, but really its a crapshoot. They cannot verify miles on any engines, but since some do have lower miles, they just put that in their advertising.
If I remember correctly, oil is very expensive in Japan, so imagine how often the oil gets changed.
Japanese engines are good engines....but only for exactly what the name says. JAPAN. They are NOT designed for American vehicles.
I once knew a guy that had to buy and warranty 4 7MGE engines before he found one that would last 25,000 miles. He was a tech, and he WAS doing it correctly on the install. The engines were just junk. I have heard so many horror stories from Jap crate engines, its unbelieveable.
One last thing...if you DO decide, after all that, to get a Jap engine, check it against yours. Make sure everything is 100% the same. Often times they will sell you a 21R engine (which is a 1.9L) if you have a 22r, or a 5A if you have a 4A-FE, etc etc. I have taken two jap crate 5A engines out of Corollas...one from mine, and another from my ex-girlfriends car becuase the previous owners stuck the stupid things in, and could never get the cars to run right.
