all the 1tons had 8: rear end, some full floater. you would have to swap the tranny unless you go divorced xcase, that will be ty and allot of work. so, new tranny.xcase, new axles front and back, drive shafts, brake lines, allot of cutting and grinding, speaking of grinding, your gonna need a grinder with allot of cut off and grinding disk. a welder, air chisel, and allot of knowledge.... just get a 4x4.

Thanks for all help! It is great having so many ideas and opinions. The truck I was looking at is already sold. But this gives me more ideas when I get one!

As for the subject of converting, putting a SFA in would be the quickest and best way to go, actually, you'd end up with a little more up-travel because the frame on 2wds is more like the frame of the older SFA from factory 4x4s than the IFS 4x4s. You'd have to get a 4wd's oilpan because the 2wd one will end up getting crunched in a 4x4 setup. The exhaust will have to be redone as well.
It'd be far easier (and cheaper) to just put LT ifs in the front, a locker in the rear, and a 8000lbs winch on the front. With that you'll be able to get to about 80-90% of the places a 4x4 can go and to a few places no 4x4 can go. Your fuel economy won't take as huge a dive either.
