as a few of you may know i am working on a 80's toyota mud truck well i have no grill so my radiator keeps getting clogged with mud and water temp shots up. anyone have any suggestions on how to keep mud out of radiator. i might look for a grill but not sure it will even bolt up any suggestions will be great

use a combination of pipe and hose.

I've never done it myself but I'm guessing you run some sort of metal tube for the longer segments and then use misc radiator hose sections for the bends.

I replaced my old beat up stock plastic grill with a steel tube grill made by Stuhl (purchased at http://clickserve.cc-dt.com/link/cli...732]JC Whitney:


I had to slightly modify the mounting brackets and they line up with threaded holes in the core support for a solid install. Then I installed a heavy mesh screen behind the tubing to keep debris out of the radiator. It has held up great for about 8 years now.

i am going to work on putting it in the bed i guess i will use spare exhaust tubing i have laying around not sure how well pvc piping will hold up. I will keep you guys updated on if this becomes a epic fail or victory.

well the PVC won't rust and screw up your engine like exhuast...

yeah guess that is a good point this motor takes plenty of abuse as is i dont really need rust floating around my cooling system. but will the pvc handle the heat i know it wont melt but i just dont want it to crack. hot water on the inside cold lake water on the out cause i plan on trying to run the piping under the truck along frame rails.

My girlfriend has a guy at work that has a yota with a 350 transplant with the rad in the bed with attached electric fan, but I think he got suspended from work, not sure when he's supposed to be back if at all, I will see if I can find out what he used to plum it.

xxxtreme22r that would be fantastic i just dont wanna rig it all up and spend money only to find out there is a easier more efficient way

I can't gaurantee anything, as I don't kow exactly where this guy lives, and will have to wait till at least monday, bu tdo some searching around on google for radiators in beds, I am sure it has been done may times before. But like I said this guy with the 350 etc, would be perfect for you as this truck is his daily drvier in the summer and he also drag races it. Can you say yota on solid axles w SBC on 38's running a 13.9 in the 1/4 Yes that's what he runs.

13.9 with 38's thats awesome. That actually my plans for this thing is a drag/mud truck i wanna be able to beat your basic street car with it. i got a few sections of pipe from lowes today i planned on working on it but 102 degrees outside so i guess i will wait till i get of in the morning

i agree with the wire mush we use it out here to keep the bugs from pluggin up the radiator and it wroks great dnt see why it wouldnt wrk for the mud
