frame rust

well im new to yotatech but have been doing reaserch here for quite some time. well i recently aquired a 4runner with some frame rust, and was wondering what i should do with it. and jsut wanted some advice on whta your opinion might be on it. i hit it with a hammer and its still seems strong. i will post pics as soon as i can but im having a problem trying to get the lil mountain and phototbucket to agree with each other. but the main poins are the cross member, gas tank mounts, spare tire area, lower radiator mount, and on the left side (if your looking at the truck from the front),the hook on the frame is bent down and so is the frame a lil bit, and my driver side motor mout seems iffy. i know that i could always patch up the areas, but how much would it cost to fix. i know about por15 and have read several threads on it. well that all for now. sorry for such a long post. but i will get pics up here asap. thanks in advace.

I would wire brush it and coat everything in rubberized undercoat. Buy it by the can. If you have access to a sand blaster that would be even better. If the metal is still thick enough at least you will halt/slow the spread

There isnt a whole lot u can do with that, due to the salt on the roads up here in winter, mine looks about 1000 times worse than yours and still holding up. If anything will slow it down some, it would be por15, hard to find but does help some. Once rust gets going, its just about impossible to stop. POr15 is at most body supply stores and a few auto parts stores.

Looks very similar to my 4runner, salt kills vehicles up here. Well thanks to this thread I have learned about por15 for the first time, pretty interesting stuff. I just got this runner so I plan on brushing everything underneath the best I can then spraying the black undercoating. If that gets me 4-5 years out of this thing I've done good. If your willing to spend some bucks go with por15.

i was on the same boat as you, but not as bad. i knocked off as much as the rust as possible and hit with some black spray paint. then a used 3M rubberized undercoating on the entire truck underneath and so far its held up pretty good.

Start over with something rust free...only a matter of time before that one breaks in half.

i undrstand that grinding and paing it will only go so far. which is ok to save up money for. there is a frame of a 95 in a local junk yard that is in good condition. but im so inexperienced for that. but there is only one way to learn. but its hard to find a shop where i live to do a frame swap not including the money that it would cost. eventually i would like to swap a 5 speed and 3.4 swap. but dont want to put money into it if i cant do anything about a frame. would it just be better to find a diff truck w/ a good frame and go from there or start building a rolling chassis of everything i would like to do. this is my NSDD ( not so daily driver) im a jet mechanic in the air force and work with my wife so i can afford down time. but i origanally bout this truck to make a dd/ off road rig. i just need to know where to start. thanks for the help.
