Clunk when you come to a stop and take the brake off
Hi,
I have a 2004 TOYOTA TACOMA TRD SPORTS PKG DOUBLE CAB AUTO TRANSMISSION. I put a 2in lift on it when I first bought it . Around 70,000 miles, I started to noticed a clunk when you take the brake off. Also I noticed the shifter moves a little. I have done so much research and taken it to so many different dealers and I get different answers everytime. I even wrote a letter to the Toyota Company asking why this is happening. They advised it is normal. It's so annoying. I currently have 157,000 miles. I was referred to this website by a friend who also owns a Toyota. His is a 2000 , however its stocked. His does not do this. Please advise . thanks Maria

can you tell where the sound is coming from? front, middle, back? if the shifter is moving around check your crossmember mount. but sometimes brakes will do that when your suspension starts to get a little soft. the suspension loads up as you stop and doesn't come back up, so when you let off the brakes it unloads all the tension giving a clunk noise. this is often accompanied by the truck settling almost like it is lowering its self in the rear.

grease the drive shaft zerk fitting(slip shaft) not the u joints but the one on the shaft itself 5 pumps or so should do it and you should put a pump or 2 at every oil change
