I have a chance to buy a Dana 30 front and a dana 35 rear for $200 total. Will they work with a 88 4runner? I want to do a SAS and get the rear beefed as well.

If anyone knows if this will work, please let me know. Also if this setup would not work, please let em know what would be the best to go with. thank you for your help.

I wouldn't spend the money on a Dana unless it was a 44. I've see way to many of the 30's and 35's just shatter.

Find a Toyota solid front axle and do your swap with that. It'll be a tougher axle than the 30 or 35.

If that's the route you feel you want to go then by all means do so, just do a write up for us. If it was me I'd stay with Toyota axles, but that's me.

That would be a much better combo.

Dana 30's are weak as hell, don't even consider them.
Dana 44 can be built pretty strong.

i would want a dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear i think if i went full width.


Im happy with toyota axles.

it is just hard to find the toyota axles. I have an easier time finding the dana's. Plus I am an old Jeep guy (sorry about the bad 4 letter word), but love my runner. I will be starting a thread once I figure out what to do.

my thoughts on the matter.

If you are going to go to different axles, go toyota, or go one tons.

Either way its going to be expensive.

Ive seen a lot of people throw full widths under it and wish they would have just gone 1 tons from the beginning.

don't waste money on a 44, as they are equally as strong as a toy front, even with both being built.

Go with 1 tons. the stability of full width is awesome, plus the strength to beat on it and keep going is nice.

thanks for the feedback. I will keep looking for the toyota fronts or 1 tons. Just got the SR5 alloys put on the runner. It is awesome. I found 4 of them with centers and lugs for $80 on craigslist. will get a build up thread started this weekend.

I once heard the Dana 30 referred to as "The most discarded axle in history". Unless you are going huge, stick with Toyota axles IMHO.

Problem with going 60's or bigger now is weight. What motor are you gonna throw in there lol what tire size too??? Big question there yet to be talked about! No need for any bigger than the toyota 8" if your not gonna run bigger than 39. AND NO NO NO NO NO dana 30's or 35's. Get some longs and be good with a yota axle till 39's. Also you go bigger than 39's your gonna have to run wider axles and most likely Coils aswell as youll have no steering when your tire runs into your leafs. how bout some Ford Mega high nines?? Now thats the way to go but now were talkin real $$$

He has skys widening kit and 2.5bs wheels. his barely kiss the springs at full lock.

And it turns better than mine with hydro assist. lol

I am just looking to run max of 35's. I am not sure what engine for sure yet. I have the 22re right now. I do want to do the SAS though. I am not a big fan of IFS for off-roading. All the info is very helpful. thanks and keep the knowledge coming!

Then stay with toy axles up front and in the back, upgrade the shafts, and don't look back.

If you are just plannin on runnin on 35s, dont even think about tons.... You wont have crap for ground clearance. And you just wont need it.

If you want to go full size axles, then go Dana 60`s front and rear, my cousin has this set up on his 86 4Runner and he can go alot of places that most trucks can`t.
