98 4runner 5sp any issues or things to look at?
OK so I know the 90-95s really welll but know very little about the 3.4 3rd gens... So heres what I got.
1st off I paid $6800 for it, it has 175k and normally Id be skeptical BUT the motor runs perfect literally, no leaks, no knocking or bad bearings, tranny is perfect shifts great it is a 5 speed so Im kind of liking that. Its on 265x75x16 toyo mts and lifted a bit. The motor compartment is clean, yes I know detailing I used to own a shop but the tell tales like stains and build up under bolts, hard to reach areas etc...
Outside is neer perfect and interior is perfect, it has been babbied and judging by side of seat (drvr side closest to door), pedals, and steering wheel Id be inclined to say it was frwy miles.
Its literally a 9.5 out of 10 as far as clean and driveability
So heres the questions for you guys:
1- Did I overpay (I dont plan on modding it alot, aside of lockers)?
2- What things should i be aware of motor/tranny wise for maintenance?
3- Can a factory e-locker fit it or would I be better just doing an ARB down the road?
4- Is this is non interferance engine should the timig belt break?
5- Also how easy is it to change the timing belt and what belt would you recomend?
6- Can e-lockers be done front and rear in it?
Is there things I need to be aware of??????
Ill keep with the stock gearing with the 5sp and the bigger tires it still spins them when I hammer down. So Lockers if selectable will go front and rear.

mine came factory theres a few write up's but you will need to modify the housing some as for the front im not sure if that's a good idea ... my water pump failed at 188k i replaced it with this kit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT see my thread for the tools and stuff you need

Nice thanks and Ill take a look and see if infact its a replacement unit... Id assume not but then again you never know...
Ill take a look at the thread for e-locker install... If its a PITA then Ill just do some lunchbox locker or a detroit in the front that way its there when I need it and not a nuisance on the road...

I just found a donor rig, bought it, and swapped front and rear differentials (the entire assembly, housing and all) with my rigs' diffs. I had to swap both because I went from 4.10's without a locker to 4.30 with. Then I sold the donor rig for more than I bought it for.
