My O2 sensor is located on top of the exhaust manifold. Where would i find the wire to connect to?

If it has a carb it won't need an o2 sensor. Someone might have swapped manifolds an left the sensor in as a hole plug.

although that might be the case, some carb'd trucks did come with 02 sensors. not sure why, not sure what it controls since the toyota aisin carbs are not feedback carbs like the older fords were but some did have 02 sensors. What's funny is the fact that they were on the header inside the engine bay, so they definitely do not monitor cat efficiency.

I remember a discussion about that a short while ago, not sure which thread it was in though. I think it might have been the thread about which trucks had and did not have the PAIR system etc etc.

the O2 Sensor is there to tell you whether it's running rich or lean, i believe all it does is throw a code.

does a 22r motor even have a check engine light? I know mine doesn't.

one of those posts from the above mention thread, one guy had said maybe is has something to do with the operation of the PAIR system.

are you sure it's supposed to be there to begin with and the manifold itself was never changed to one that happened to have it and someone was too lazy to take it off and block it like it was supposed to be?

Yes I am sure. I have installed all exhaust components back to stock. There was a header that was not smog legal. Now just trying to find where to connect O2 sensor. That should take care of the problem. Engine is running to rich when off idle to pass smog. O2 sensor will send code to carb which will make the adjustment.

haha wrong, toyota aisin carbs are not feedback carbs like fords are. That much I know. There is nothing on the carb that is controlled by any ECU on any of the 22r motors.

Who ever told you that does not know these motors. If the engine is running rich it is because of something else, it is not that O2 sensor.

XXX is right, you could completely remove the O2 sensor and it won't do a dang thing to the carb..

my '86 had a check engine light, i noticed it when i took apart my cluster lmao

so would that mean if his carb'd truck is supposed to have that o2 sensor and it was not hooked up it should be on right? Unless either the bulb is burned out or it is not supposed to be there.

You said the truck had a header on it right? Where did the manifold come from that is on there now?

Why did they say the header was not smog legal? Because it didn't have an o2 sensor? I am sure your not the only one in cali that has a header on their truck. How to they pass smog?

Header did not have a eo # so we switched back to stock system. Some headers are ca approved.
