22re head on 22r block?
hey i have a 93 pickup that i put a rebuilt 84 motor in and i lack on power. i was told that the re intake manifold is ported different than the r head so that is my problem. i was wondering if the re head will work on my r block? thanks!!

No. Not all 22R's are the same.
80-84 was a tall deck block. 85-95, short deck.

no the 22r vs re heads were ported the same, sounds like someone is getting the 20R head and the 22r head porting differences mixed up.
but yes the 80-84 22r and the 85-95 heads are slightly different, but not in the porting. easiest way to prove this between the years is the fact the 81-95 valves are the same.

wait a minute, I missed a critical flaw in the original post, you say the 22re intake manifold and then you go on to say porting is different than the 22r head.
now I am confused as to what you are trying to do.

I have an 84 motor that i rebuilt and put it in my 93 cause i bought it with a blown motor and instead of puttin a carb and all on it and rewiring everything i decided to just put the fuel injection manifold on it. it runs fine but i don't have the power i should. it seems like it starves for fuel. the block is bored .040 over and it has dome pistons and the head is re done with stiffer valve springs and toquey comp cam

I have a 92 pickup with a bad block. I was going in to change the head gasket at 321,000 miles and found some pretty bad scarring. So I picked up the 22r (pre 85) block for $80... then found out that its supposedly not possible to use it because of the height difference and timing chain length.
Can I shave the 22r block .19" and make it a 22re block? The deck height is the ONLY difference, right?
My other question is, could I just leave the 22r alone, put the 22re heads on, and take a link out of the timing chain? If I did that, would it mess with the timing since there's one less link? I've read and read, searched and searched and I just don't see why you can't do one of these two things.
Thanks
