22r in 20r rig

Hi guys,
I am going to drop a 22R in an older 20R rig. My only concern is the carb. The 22R car(1986?) had an O2 sensor. My old rig (1977)has no computer at all.

So here is the question:
Will the 22R carb work without any computer/ O2 sensor, etc imput? -OR- am I screwed and should toss the 22R carb in the junkpile and put a weber on it.

Thanks for your time guys!

I kept the carb from my old 20R thinking I could just bolt it on.
Now I wish I would have kept the whole thing!
Live and learn....

20R carb: No.

22R carb to 20R intake adapter Via LC Engineering: Yes!

All 20 and 22R/E exhaust manni's are the same... They will interchange. And that's where your O2 lives...

I'd put a tall-deck up to 84 22R block under that 20R head FTW.

Mine's old and wore out, but will flat out FLY! I'm more limited by RPM now than by the lack of power...

My old 20R has died well. Much flame and destruction. A worthy death to be sure. I didn't save anything from it due to the damage (lost a rod). I tossed everything but the carb...
My brother had a '85 Celica that got T-boned. It had maybe 30K on a good solid rebuild. We took the motor out of it, and dropped it in my rig. His car had a computer...not mine. That is why I kept my carb. The plan was simple...but I get a D- on planning ahead! I could use the '85 carb. How well is that going to work without a computer?? I dunno.
Maybe I should give it a try!
Most carb adaptors work both ways..Maybe I could use it to put the 20R carb on the 22R?

i think it will work just fine?

the only thing that was "electronic" on my '86 22R carb was the choke and the fuel cut solenoid, maybe a few VSV's.

you might have to go to a manual choke, and then hotwire the fuel cut solenoid to shut off when you turn the key off.

Please elaborate on 'fuel cut solenoid' and vsv's.
The choke I can handle...wires in carbs are beyond me.
I am kinda new to these fancy 'new' rigs. Stuff made before '75 I can fix all day long..

Just haven't had the need to learn this new stuff.
(LOL-I just said that '80's are NEW!).

If I run the 22R carb, which vac line is best for the distributor? Or should I run it off the intake?

STOP:

Find a 85 and up carb, intake and exhaust.

Then flip through a Chiltons and find the vac diagrams and run it just like that.

The ONLY problem I foresee with that is different wiring harness plugs for the carb, but those can be swapped.

The closer to factory a Toyota truck is, the better...

The way you sound it's gonna be a recipe for disaster...
