2002 4runner. Brand new bulbs. Tail lights wont turn on

I just replaced the bulbs at the back of my 2002 4runner and now my tail lights don't turn on. The lights work for other functions, like my brake lights come on when i brake, and my reverse lights come on when i go into reverse, and my turn signals work too. But when I turn my headlights on i have no lights on the back.

Could it be a fuse or are there any other issues that I need to look for? I also need to replace a few bulbs on the front and want to know if I'm going to be dealing with this issue some more. Anyone deal with this before?

I looked at the book at Kragen for the bulb number and just bought what it said to. I didn't expect to have more options than that.

Red face

Did your lights work before you replaced the bulbs??

If not do the front marker lights work??

Did you check for 12 VDC power at the light socket ??

If not you could have a tail light fuse out.

Did you clean the sockets before installing the bulbs??

Electrical problems you pretty much need to follow a standard trouble shooting procedure till you find the problem and repair it.

Good Luck

my guess is the socket prongs are not oriented the right way. They only fit one way correctly but will seem to fit either way... one is slightly lower than the other if you take em out and view them you will see what I mean...

stay in touch this is how we all learn

Hey all, I'm new here. Just bought a 94 Runner and read somewhere that if you pull the "Stop Light" fuse and spread the prongs apart slightly it could get the brake lights working again depending on the issue.
I tried the fuse with no luck but have read it worked for others. I ended up replacing the left & right bulb.

Cheers!
