So my 85 yota finally stopped rolling on me. Clutch went out on me last week and now i got the new one ready to be put in. Never done this before so i've been searching the threads and came up with this site: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/4Runne...enance/clutch/
Seems like pretty much all i need to know but if anyone else has done this before then i would appreciate their opinion. The shops want about $400 just to put it in and i like working on things myself. So i figured this will be a learning experience before the BIG rebuild/build up coming up next spring.

That's actually the walkthrough I used to do mine some time back. Started on Saturday morning and was done that evening. Take your time, keep your parts including nuts and bolts organized so you get it all together right, take a break every so often and be sure to leave the following day free just in case.

But it's pretty straightforward and a great thing to learn to do. Good luck!

I'm looking at the FSM right now, it says 14 ft-lb for flywheel.

I'm an idiot, I meant pressure plate. I just used an air gun and lock tite on my flywheel bolts *puts on flame suit*

so is air gun, haha... I let it go til it stopped then spun 1/4 of a turn. Works every time.

So its finally done. Got the truck on the lift about 10 this morning and was backing it out of there around 215. Not too bad of a job at all. Followed just about everything i seen on the site but one BIG difference i made compared to every other post was i never used and kind of jack on the tranny. Unbolted the bellhousing bolt, drive shafts, hydraulic lines and any wires, then the the 4 bolts loose on the top side of the cross member where the tranny mounts to the X member. Then got a buddy to help me slide it back about 12 inches and from there was tear down and good cleaning. Think the hardest part of the entire job was getting the top bellhousing bolts out. Followed all advice on every other post but actually getting to them is a real pain. Reinstalling was a little easier due to the fact i already knew how i needed to get to them. So 4 hrs. and 15 mins (with a quick lunch) and the truck is back on the road. I feel like this went about as well as it could for the 1st time. Maybe next spring i'll even try a motor rebuil. :-P

Well thanks Gnarly, I sure wouldn't of been able to do this at all without the help of all here at Yota Tech. Just hope everything holds up, had no left over bolts(which is very unusual for me, haha) so thats a good thing.
