im not new to the toyota world or 4runners. but i am new to a 1st gen 1985 4runner. i just picked up the 85 22re 4cyl, 5spd, solid axle 4runner the other day and have a project on my hand!!! other then some electrical problems?
But...
my main concern so far is my rear axle, seems kinda weird to me.

i lock the hubs, put it into 4 high or 4 low, put it in 1st. now, as i start inching forward the rear end will start to feel almost locked up.. like something is getting caught. then the rear end will kind of hop forward. then if i keep going forward... it will do it again. i dont have an idea what it could be..

if you have any thoughts or solutions. help me out please

Sounds to me like mismatched gears...

Sounds exactly like mismatched gear ratios front to rear diff.

ok thats good we were thinking the same thing. just wanted to be sure.. ive never had that happen so i was kinda puzzled . but thanks for the help!
