Wtb: deck lamp switch

looking for a deck lamp switch. Prefer the version that says "deck lamp" on one side and "on" on the other, but would still be interested in the other version with the amber light.

let me know what you got.

Thanks

Just to verify...You know the switch won't turn on the deck lamp unless your parking lights are on, right? Unless a previous owner changed the wiring. I don't think in two 1st gen 4Runners I've ever had the light on.

Yep. Ive got a deck lamp on my '85 pickup that works surprisingly.

I really want them to re-purpose as aux light switches, so i have era-appropriate rocker switches so it looks as close to factory as possible.

How about this. These are what I use. Perfect fit in all of my Toyotas and I have yet to purchase a faulty one.

I know there are other switches, but im being OCD in that i want all of the switches to look the same. That first one on amazon is close, but the surround doesnt match the 80's toyota style, and would drive me crazy every time i look at it because it would look different compared to the other switches. Ive seen some write ups on relabeling the factory switches, so thats the best bet since nobody sells them anymore.

sounds like everyone should send their deck lamp switches to me and buy the newer/cooler switches

i'd really like to find 2 or maybe even 3

I think you and my wife would get along great! That switch is out of an 88. Just let me know if you need it.

I know what you're trying to acomplish but you do realize that the switches you are looking for are going to be 30 years old. They will fail eventually and when they do, you are going to have more and more trouble finding replacements. Are you working on a really old Runner or a truck? If it's a 4runner it's going to be an 86 or earlier. There aren't many of those left out there to pick.

Hey I just thought of something funny. You could paste an I over the E in on that switch and have a good one for your rear lights.

Haha i hear ya. I know, these switches are so old and will eventually fail. Im trying to add modern features, while making them appear to be factory, which is why Im trying to go down this path vs buying some new carling switches (which i do like).

Im working on a '85 x-cab, which Im trying to restore

Great looking truck. Deck lamps pretty common in that model?

10-4 I'll keep my eye out for some. There is a salvage yard down here in El Dorado AR called Rusty Acres that has quite a few old trucks and 4runners. Probably 30 or more in your year range. You might look them up. I think they will deliver. Owner's name is David. The girls that work for him are Satin's spawn but he is all about some restoration projects. He helped me out a ton over the years. I think he has about 15K cars on that lot and this is a small town.

I have atleast two the style you want, might even have a 3rd. What's ya looking to spend on them? I can test them all with a multi meter if you want, and I might be able to make up pig tails for them too with new wire/terminals if I have the correct style of connector on hand (I make wire harnesses for atvs).

EDIT:

I might have jumped the gun a little early, I've parted out most of the one truck that I know had the switch, might be around yet, I'll have to check. The other is in a truck I picked up today, so here's a photo of it. Truck has 128k miles so shouldn't be too much wear on it .

Above is for the 4Runner rear deck light where you can control it from the rear deck or the dash. Can be converted to simple on-off (single-pole single throw) in dash, but not for OCD

Below is the simple on-off for the pickup:

Here's how you mod it so you can turn on deck light even without turning tail light on.

Besides the one I have above, It looks like I sold the panels with the switches in them already. I do have one of the 4runner style switches too. Using this post to post of photos of the center console we talked a little about in pms. Not sure if you'd be interested in any of the switches there, some have already been hacked into and the crimp job was crap, I pulled the wires right out of the crimp spices lol. Key point on why the right tool is needed for wiring. I know the console isn't the best looking, but no breaks and such that I see. Maybe paint-able if you wanted to use the whole thing.
