Soon to be 08+ Taco owner.... supercharger q's

I want a Tacoma but I have a speed demon inside to fulfill. I have narrowed my next purchase to a new Corvette or a new Taco. I know, weird unrelated choices, but the Taco is the smart choice I believe, so i'm trying to get an idea of what I can do here.

What performance options do I have for an 08+?
I have seen the URD blower kit, but unfortunately I live in CA and have smog to comply with. I suppose a TRD is my only choice to boost one of these with? I am unsatisfied with the default TRD boost levels, can I upgrade legally? How reliable are these with the currently available kits installed? What gains can I realistically expect?

If I go with the Tacoma (4x4 double cab), I will likely be dropping some bread on it right away... boost, lift, wheels/tires, lockers to start.

Thanks

Stock TRD boost at 5.5psi... will give you about 270rwhp.
With a TRD intake, and thorley long tube headers.. about 305rwhp.
With a URD pulley, and the above mods, about 330rwhp.
Add in a URD y-pipe and 3" exhaust and you'll be around 350rwhp. Check on http://www.customtacos.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=109540 and http://www.customtacos.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=109861 for some dynos on the 4.0 TRD blower with some mods.
Trust me, it definately makes enough power .
In all honesty, the URD kit is nice, but it doesnt build alot of boost until it's at high RPM.. where TRD builds full boost off-idle... giving you a flat torque curve. URD would be good for a racecar (their blower can run more boost) but not as good on a DD where you need linear low end power.
TRD outdid themselves with the 4.0 kit, they addressed every problem with the 3.4 blower and did it at a great price ($1000 less than the URD blower, that you can put into mods)

Wow I guess I have TRD all wrong. How does the rear end hold up to this output? I've heard to avoid the TRD with the 8"(??) Is the 6sp the way to go?

What kind of mileage can be expected from the supercharger/intake/header combo making 300rwhp+ on a stock suspension/wheel setup?

The diff in the new tundra's is the same one they used behind the 1st gen v8 tundra, it should be fine behind the supercharged v6.. i havent heard of any problems yet.
6spd.. all depends on preference... the new 5speed auto is very nice... test drive both and see what you like.
In all honesty, the auto will probably be faster than the 6 speed in a drag race... crusing around, probably not, but from a dig you'll get more traction.
There are supercharged auto prerunners/4x4's in the 13's, but there are no xrunners (2wd 6 speed) in the 13's (yet).. .traction issues.
Mileage? Depends how you drive of course.
I'd say anywhere between 12-18mpg (hehe like my cousins lighting, first tank, 200km, second tank 600km, mmm boost) but in normal driving it will probably be around 17mpgish on premium. The supercharger has a bypass valve so when you're not on the throttle it acts like an N/A engine so you should get stock MPG (or better with exhaust)...

not to steer you away from a nice reliable tacoma but I know from experience that the new corvette is stupid fast IT all depends on what you want. I drove an 07 vette with the better exhaust making 436 hp. It was a beautiful thing. However, I have also driven an 07 tacoma and they do all right, even without the supercharger. good luck on your choice

The irony of this thread kills me... i just got a 02 Z06 and am thinking about trading it off for an 05/06 doublecab. interested to know what your decision is!

Torn between a car and a sports car?
but i would get the truck, a truck is more practical than a sports car, and you are asking on a toyota forum after all.

i think you should put lockers and stuff on your new taco till after you drive it a few years. if you want a rig to jack up, lock up, and beef up, then i would definately get an older toyota...
