Please help! Buying 2007 Limited today. Need your opinion!!
My beloved 1999 was considered "total loss" by the insurance company. We had 13 good years together. I will miss her and the 3rd gen forum that I was loving.
I need help with a decision - a 2007 Limited V6 4.0L, never been wrecked, 97,000 miles, has good service history from what I can tell. Buying from Toyota dealership that maintained it.
I DON'T off-road and go anywhere nuts. I want to get a gut feeling that this will last to 200,000 miles. I only do maybe 15,000 a year.
I just can't afford a 2008 with less than 50,000 miles and kind of stuck in this price range. Avoid? or Buy?

I wanted to add the other option was a 2006 base model with 20,000 less miles. Do they use anything better on the Limited like a better suspension or something or is just about features like stereo and whatnot?

I have friends that have tacomas with the 4.0 in them and they beat those motors, as far as i know theyre just as reliable as the 3.4's, plus they have more power! I love that gen 4runner, unfortunately at 17 i cant afford one I dont know if that helps but i thought id give my $.02

That's probably true but I'm looking at keeping this for 6 or 7 years. And just don't want a 17 year old truck at that point. I figured buy one 5 years old with highway miles with service record and in 7 years it will be 13 years old.

Looks like it's in good condition and at only 20k miles a year i don't think the mileage is unreasonable either. The price is a little high, but that's just my opinion. I've never spent more than $10k. I think the Limited is more about features tho.
Side Note: I always found it interesting that they make so many of the 'Limited' models.......

Whats wrong with a 17 year old car? I have a 45 year old car and it runs like a raped ape.

IMO that car is overpriced with the mileage. If you could get in it for 3 grand less it'd be a "fair" deal. Bet they have some MAJOR room in that inflated price. Picking it up for 11-12 would be more like it, but I've not priced 2wd/V6 units in the past. Realize that just under 100k mile mark, you're just weeks away from taking the 100k+ depreciation hit. They probably paid some poor sap $10k on trade/auction. I'd expect the 4.0 to run 200k miles or thereabouts.
Limited is only creature comforts. No meaningful drive train differences. Have heard no known flaws/issues with the 4.0 V6.
There weren't really any Achilles heels that I could find with the 4th gens in a particular year. (Bought an 03 last year) I think in the 05/06 timeframe the V6 got a 5 speed transmission (4 speed before, don't quote me - check for yourself) and in that same timeframe, the V8 got variable valve timing netting a few more ponies and maybe slightly better fuel economy. Most everything else was cosmetic and creature comforts/technology that evolved with the model years.

My 2003 has 128000 on it and I do use it off road. There's no reason that a truck like that wont reach 200K miles. Driving style has alot to do with how long a vehicle will last. I drive like gas is expensive, no jack rabbit starts, never reved over 4000 rpm. the base model is just less goodies, if you like to make modifications, I would go with that one.

i have great confidence in the 4.0. 85k on mine. there are people with well over 200k on them that claim no failures.
i would get the base but thats just me and my perception that more electronics mean more parts that i cant fix

Well, I bought it. I love it. Rides awesome. I need to really get under there and clean everything and I'll have a chance to really inspect. What sold me was a stack of original owners Toyota service department receipts with all the service he had done. He went by the manual and had everything done when he needed to. Tires about 5 months old. He went to Toyota for everything including every oil change. Pedal recall was done also. I can now put $ into the 100,000 suggestions from the service manual. I wouldn't have bought a 100k mile truck if it wasn't for all that. I believe he put a lot of highway miles on it and his company took care of all the service costs 'cause he always asked for premium everything. I don't know if I'd even convert over to synthetic.
