2011 dcab tacoma or 2011 4runner?
Sad day but I think its time to retire my 1997 4runner.
Looking to get either a 2011 dcab 6-speed tacoma or a 2011 4runner.
What do you guys think? I understand that the tacoma is about to be redesigned but I'm not sure I can wait till then. I'd hate to buy a tacoma now and then love the new redesign.
Thoughts?

We own a tacoma and i have the 1997 4runner. We are getting the new 4runner and be honest they are both insane vehicle. Same engine only diffrence you get more luxury and offroad features in one and get size and load capability in the other. otherwise they are both awesome for the money. Personally i would go with the 4runner looks better and ride is nicer.

Thanks for the info. Isn't the new 4runner's engine slightly different than the tacomas? I think toyota tweaked it a bit to make it a bit for efficient and an increase in HP.

Honestly can't be negative to both but personally 4runner is just far better and it does have more power i think its 270hp and there was the thing that it owned there older 4runners v8 so generally its better but you are comparing the new 4runner with new design and engine to the older tacoma. May as well wait for the new tacoma to see but either way tacoma won't be the pure luxury model compared to the 4runner and off-roading 4runner was focused on that while tacoma was focused more on the small truck market. Depends if you carry any loads at all because either way 4runner all around is more useful. Just test drive both and see how you like it but definetly power wise 4runner wins.

One thing to add that I forgot about...
The 2012's are slated to supposedly be a partial redesign - new fenders, grill, hood, etc... They are also supposedly going to make Bluetooth part of the SR5 package and add a few more interior goodies. Just things I have read on various other Toyota/Tacoma forums.
I wouldn't trade my 2011 for anything but it's something to think about it if you are either the guy that likes to have the latest and greatest, or you are cheap like me and would rather get a killer deal on a 2011 with the 2012's right around the corner.
Either way, I highly recommend checking out Overstock.com to get real-world/Zagg pricing. You price the vehicle you want (color, trim, options...), enter your info, get a price guarantee and a list of dealerships in your area that will honor the price that Overstock gave you.
That's what I did and I got my 2011 for much less than MSRP and a couple thousand less than invoice.
Just my $.02...

I love the 2011 tacoma, the only reason I am considering waiting for is to see if they change the engine in the 2012. If they use the current 4runner engine it might be worth waiting for the additional HP and MPG. Or even better they develop a whole new engine for the 2012 tacoma (unlikely).
I wish there was more info on the 2012 tacoma so I can make my decsion now. Its killing me!!
the 4runner is good cause you can haul a lot of stuff and be able to lock it up. If I bought the tacoma I'd get a bedcover so I can lock things up like the bakflip2.
This is really a major problem for me, I'm totally torn. I still have to test drive them and see if that helps my decision. I'm losing sleep here.
I live in Hawaii and the toyota here has a totally separate branch called servco. They pretty much have the monopoly of toyota here so you can't get different prices because all dealerships fall under servco. Its really quite messed up when you think about it.
