When I got hit by a nova in my 95' runner the insurance totalled it.. They gave me 5k for it and the buy back was $800. Now that was 2 years ago and it was in great shape and only had 122k original miles. but i would imagine you should get a few grand back and have a low buy back. I say buy it back buy a new rig and fix old runner on the side with u-pull it parts.

A day at pick and pull and you could drive it home. Seriously.

What sort of sense does it make to pay for a new vehicle ($400-$600 monthly payments for the next 5 years) or drop $100-$200 a month to fix a vehicle you currently have?
And how often do you really spend $100-$200 on repairs in a month? That's more like goodies and add-ons not repairs. Which you would be spending on the new vehicle as well...
Fix it.

How often do you have to smog there? If you retain ownership (registered owner), you shouldn't have to smog it again. It's worth the mpg improvement on the 3.0, didn't notice any HP gains though, after all they don't call it a 3.slow for nothin.

every 2 years they make us do smog up here and its not like cali but they put it on a roller machine and do them. i only get 14 to 16 mpg right now and im running a 5 speed, 4.56 gears on 31s. i did a 5 speed swap so i wounder if swapping the ecu's will make a difference in mileage?

Just fix it. Don't remove egr. Its there to cool then combustion chambers under load and certain rpms. Get a "cold air intake" frome ebay and junk yard the rest.

Forget I said anythin then, Washington sucks. I didn't even smog mine when I bought it, and don't ever plan on smogging again. I wouldn't think an ECU swap would make much, if any, difference. You could always green sticker it and turn it into a rock beast.

I know this is way off topic, but you might reconsider buying such expensive insurance for a 20-year old vehicle. You absolutely need liability coverage (everyone does), but comprehensive (and god-forbid, collision) is usually a bad deal. A 1992 4Runner has a Kelly Blue Book value in the low $2,000's, and your insurance is not likely to be obligated to give you a lot more. (Don't forget the deductible.)

I've owned my '94 for 9 years, and comprehensive would have cost about $600/year with a $500 deductible. When I hit a semi on the fwy, I fixed the fender/bumper/valance/apron for about $400. If I wrap my truck around a pole today, I'm still $1,000s ahead.

Just one man's opinion.

No offense or any thing but I would tell your wife its your money and truck and just do it its 300 come on... Why have a loan to pay on instead of having a paid off truck? She is just jealous out your yota I've seen it before my old lady is envious of my Toyota's

Check this out.... I bought my 95 runner back in 2004, still have and love her dearly, i did some decent damage to her a couple years back and since hen have contemplated selling her, mine runs like a champ, it was beautiful once though. I am currently looking at buying a 92 right now to replace her with, I probably WON'T go through with it. Reason for that is I LOVE my 4runner, that's why I kept her so many years now. I could fix for a decent sum of cash myself or have the body work done but just can't let her go. Fix your runner, respect your wife but don't do what only she wants, marriage is a "mutual" consignment. If you agree then cool, but if you do it unwillingly you will end up resenting the decision/ her/ and yourself, speak from experience, that is why after 8 long years of offers and opportunities I still have this one. 82shorty is who I would be wanting to talk to, fix her up or better implant a 3.4. If you have replaced so much the rig should be solid then pending the recent damage. One last note; this 4runner as my first yota, that is probably the main reason why I don't want to abandon her, not sure your's is your first either. Sorry so long, whatever you do good luck and I'm happy to try and convince you otherwise

Wow, after I wrecked my truck my wife didn't even ask me what I was doing. I told her that I was going to buy a trailer for it and she just said "I figured that". My wife knows that I work hard for my money and I deserve to spend it where it makes ME happy. She knows that I would never spend money on toys when we need something but other than that she won't interfere with the money I broke sweat for.

Don't take it the wrong way, but I think you need to put on your man pants and tell her what YOUR money will be spent on, she can do what she wants with hers and you do what you want with yours.
