Don't know how much this helps, but the ECU died in my fiance's car, and it shut off in the middle of the street. She put it in park and it started back up, just ran like crap. Thankfully, she was in front of the Toyota dealership. (BTW, car is a 2007 Corolla S with 30000 miles and have already taken it to the dealership for 3 different repairs; might as well have bought a Chevy

Yeah, I've soldered before.... heat the wire, not the solder, let it flow into the wires.
So, it was the O2 sensor wires. Insulation was melted through (again). Cut out the bad part, soldered it back, heat shrink, tape, foil, and zip tied the crap out of it (last time I just taped it all up) ... hopefully it stays fixed this time!

Okay......I was just asking. Wanted you to see good results.
I soldered the TPS and ECT sensors on my 3.0 last year (a little "crash" course in soldering....wrecked the vehicle) and that's how I learned to do it. Worked very well.
If it's ever a concern, most electrical supply places have this rubbery, goo stuff...forget what it's called...that you apply to the splice to waterproof it. I've used it whenever I've had to make underground splices for electrical feed lines to the house.

So, drove the hell out of it this weekend with no issues ... seems that the O2 sensor wire was it!
I'm interested to see if that was the cause of my pretty horrific gas mileage recently too...
