'95 4Runner (4wd), 3.0, auto, 31 BFG AT's (about 1/2 worn), ADD.
When in 2wd I have a "vibration" that sets in (feels like it's coming from the front, can sometimes feel it through the steering wheel a little) that fades out around 45 ~ 55 or so then comes back above 55.
Kinda changes or comes and goes depending on throttle, coasting or under power.
I'm new to IFS 4Runners.
I'm from the Jeep world
This vibrations very similar to a bad u-joint or the driveshaft angle bad in a lifted Jeep.

Any thoughts, axles maybe ?
The vehicle has 150K on it and is cherry, however I don't know if the axles have ever been changed.

probably that pain in the @ss we all call lug centric rims. There is a writeup on a past post on how to handle it.

I had the same problem with my 95 runner, and it was the u-joints. I tried evertthing befor I found out it was this. I didn't think it was the u0-joints till the shop put it up on the lift, and there was play in them with the tires ont touching the ground. ones changed, the problem went away and the rig drove as smooth as silk.

Which u-joints, the rear driveline (CV joint or the regular one), or the front driveline (CV joint or the regular one) or the CV joint(s) on one or both of the front axle shafts ?

Sounds like the idler arm has some play....mine was the same. Grab the passenger wheel and wiggle it back and forth...watch the idler arm for up and down play. If it does have play, then follow these simple rebuild instructions.....

Switched to manual hubs and, with the hubs unlocked, no more vibs.
Guess that pretty much narrows it down.
I'll get a pair of axles, swap 'em in, and keep the old ones for trail spares.

Funny thing.

I come from the "Jeep world", having built up a '98 TJ into a really awesome rockcrawler.
The Jeeps use hub centric rims and everyone complains about those.
Guess that it's true that you can't please everyone
