Up In Flames!!! :(

Sadly, today at roughly 4:30pm central time my pickup went up in flames. Some sort of electrical fire began in the dash and within thirty seconds of me exiting the truck had engulfed the entire cab, destroying everything inside and most of the glass. I am assuming its totalled..i would post pics but i dunno how...not quite sure how i am going to move forward from here..trying to decide between going to a newer taco or 4runner w/ elocker..or go to a fullsize truck such as a f150, z71, zr2, or f250 diesel...i dont think the insurance company is going to fix it b/c its heavily damaged inside, it would need an entire new cab and instrumentation, and a dash and wiring harness, upholstery, electronics, door panels, glass, headliner, etc...

Man,that sucks and yeah,it'll be totaled but you might be able to buy it back and sell the parts.

Thats a bummer... good luck with the insurance company. Make sure you get $$ for all your mods. They will pay extra for all the "visible" mods. Gears/locker and internal engine mods are the hardest, but if they can see things like lift, wheels, tires.etc... you'll get a higher total check.

Hmm,most insurance companies won't cover mods unless you specified it in your coverage and even if they do they won't reimburse you fully. I know this since I have alot of friends with modded cars for the dragstrip and they don't cover $1000 carbon fiber wings if it was a replacement for a $300 dealer part. Mostly they'll cover is the OEM part price but in your case I think it'll be totaled and they'll give you blue book.

I asked my insurance company about it a few years back, and they said as long as its a visible improvment (i.e. provable) its coverd. I asked if they needed documentation and they said nope.... might vary from company to company, I am with State Farm in Idaho. They have replaced PIAA headlight bulbs when the lens has broken and caused the bulb to blow, never been an issue for me.

I know how you feal right now, the same exact thing happened to my 92 4Runner!!!

Is the origin of the fire near the ignition cylinder? That is where mine was, I am begining to think there is a defect with them!

I stripped everything I could, got paid for the rest and made out like a bandit. (State Farm)

There are pics of mine linked in my sig.

Sorry to hear about it all,
Lamm

If they total his truck it might be a different story but he definetly needs to let teh insurance company know what he's got under it.

That sucks dude. I hope they pay out well for you.

Isn't improvement a relative term with the insurance company though? A lift and such may not neccesarily be an "improvement" to them? I always kind of wondered but never asked.

If it was the ignition cylinder I think I recall seeing a service notice about them. There is a website somewhere that lists all the service notices and recalls for a vehicle based on the model/vin number I don't remamber the link just now... amnybody here got an idea?
I think if you search for auto+recall you might get a link the site was for almost any manufacturer [ it was the free part of a pay service for mechanics]
hope this helped aviator
ps too bad about you truck hope you find a new toyota.

Sorry to hear about your loss dude!
Luckily (I hope) no one was hurt and rest can be replaced. Every ending is a new beginning. If I hadn't lost my Beemer to a fire I would have never found my runner and this great site and all the guys here... & a or 2 or...
Good luck man!
