One of my Silver stars crapped out after about 7month the other case was cracked after the first week in wheelin (still worked), I got a cheap set of H4 conversions of E bay, I'm not going to pay a hundred bucks for something that gets cracked easily off road. They came with the projector lense in the housing, don't foresee going HID any time soon. Just my .02

That I highly doubt. California is being an ass about it but the rules are federal. To be street legal, HID have to be factory installed or factory option. Basically the manufacturer has to provide certain documentation on beam pattern. They also have to have leveling motors and do that cool level test thing when you turn them on.

I run HID in my offroad lights and really like them. However quality has been a reoccurring issue. Pretty much all the aftermarket Chinese bulbs come from three companies. Their quality control is lacking. Some work really well and last forever, some die after a few minutes. The cheapest I've seen a TRUE HID set up is 150 and that was not street legal. OEM systems run about 1.5k.

I'm running the Hella ecode. They are a little more expensive but really heavy glass. I've thrashed them offroad and have not broken one. They have taken rock strikes, branchs, and me standing the 4runner on its nose. My friends have been though a couple of the cheep plastic ebay versions. I'll pay more, pay once.

always be sure to clean the bulbs with rubbing alcohol before you install and do not touch them afterwards either, the natural oil from your fingers will short the life of the bulbs. to be double sure i will wipe them again right before they go into the housing

I have been running silverstars for over a year with no problem in hella housings. My friend had them for about 6 months, after having his car sitting the last 3 months outside, one of them went out...there was moisture inside the housing.

Im on my second set of silverstars, first set lasted about a year... I haven't had any problems with my lights, the light output is better than other lights imo. For those of you who are considering HID read this:
