if its a squeeling sound when the clutch is in and the motor is running its a dry throw-out bearing just changed mine with the ol motor swap

If its coming from the bellhousing its either the CLUTCH slipping which btw, can make a noise. Or the slave Which is directly to the right hand side bolted TO the bellhousing. Which btw, can make noise. The rod that hits the clutch fork can make noise (add some grease, walla gone).

if its coming from the pedal or the area by your feet then theres two possibilities. Master Clutch cylinder or the bracket the clutch attaches to its cracking/breaking..

Diagnosing any of these noises is SIMPLE.


A bad rear main seal can contaminate a clutch and make it squeal. If thats the case, be smart to replace it. Not terribly difficult.

yea mine did it to, nothing a lil wd-40 couldent fix

My 94 4Runner clutch would squeal regardless engine is off or on. I traced it in the clutch area (sorry dont know my parts that well) around the tranny area around in front of the passenger area.

I was scared, but I sprayed some lubricant (not WD40) using a red straw like plastic attached to the tip of the spray can. The squeaking went away for months. Now it is back again. I know it was stupid to spray something especially the clutch, but I was pretty frustrated and desperate. Now, I have been living with it, but seriously thinking of doing it again since nothing happened the first time I sprayed lubricant....no my clutch did not slip, just the noise went away...my two cents.

I've been trying to replace my master and slave clutch cylinders, and have had some difficulty.

At this point, both of the new (aftermarket ) parts are on the vehicle, and I've tried to bleed the system, but can't seem to get the clutch to completely release still. There's a lot of squeaking when I push on or release the clutch pedal that I've traced (with a stethoscope) to the slave cylinder.

Does this squeaking on the new part mean that I have a bad part or is it something else? Could this be why I can't seem to get the mushiness out of the system?

Glad I'm not the only one with this problem...

My old '85 Supra did the same thing, I greased it just like what's mentioned above and it was gone for good. I used actual grease, not spray lubricant. Didn't want it going everywhere inside.

My 4Runner is starting to do the squeek now too (140K miles)
