I use amsoil 10w40 in my 3.0 due to a low reading. This brought it up to normal at idle.

I have to same issue with my 3.0, i rebuilt it and now the pressure is just as yours. tried a 10/40 and it helped but i went from 12.5 to 10 mpg. so back to 10/30. she dont idle much but stay about 10 psi, goes to 40 at rpm. gonna have to check my relief valve. was a brand new pump...

Dredging up an old thread, can a person get to the oil pressure relief valve without a lot of work? I have low to no oil pressure even with a mechanical gauge and looking at the pictures I can not quite tell. Reading the manual with a 4 x 4 the front differential has to be pulled. Might put it at the end of the drive and sell it for parts the truck has over 175,000 miles on it.

When you put the mechanical gauge on the engine, where was it connected?

The stock oil sensor wires are notorious for shorts that cause excess resistance & thus low readings.

I bet the bottom end is shot. That just screams loose main bearings.

Removed the electric gauge fitting and put the mechanical in its place.

Sounds like you're getting a good reading. I agree with skypilot--could be main bearings, oil pump, or a combination of both.
