I had mine go out last winter, and ended up getting a remaned one for something like $45 after the core charge @ advance auto. Works just fine (knock on wood) and after you've replaced one on these trucks the next one would be much easier, and i could easily replace one in about half an hour now.

and hell, its a manual. I push started it several times to make it the couple days till I could get to the parts store.

I know this sounds crazy but I would go with a brand new one from the dealer. Before I had crawler gears, I would use my starter to get a tire over a large obsticle to save the clutch and it would give me more control. Even after all that abuse, it would'nt die. It finally gave up when I had to restart the truck with the starter underwater.
So unless you ford deep water, dont acccept an imitation.
Same goes for alternators.

Nono, scenario like this:

1. Go buy lifetime alternator from schucks
2. Install. Take core back to schucks, for core refund.
3. Go to pull a part, buy cheapo starter for $5
4. Take to schucks, have them warranty starter.

Guys would do this crap all the time. Just wait a few months and claim "road grime" on the starter and what can they say? How can they PROVE its not the same starter they sold? They can't, so they have to warranty it.

so because you had bad experiences with dishonest people, I'm frowned on, even made to feel subhuman, for claiming the warranty I paid for?

I thought when bought a part from Autozone that you went into their nation wide data base.

Who said anything about being frowned on? Or being made subhuman? I was simply saying many people would do that, and thats one of the reasons lifetime warranties were a bad idea.

Im just saying don't go aftermarket remans.

awww... DC cares...
but most people won't use the lifetime warranty because they need a starter 'now', not when they get around to it....
but I still appreciate the sentiment.
