No Radio now storage
Well I got tired of the radio just not working and I don't like the fact that there is no storage space in a reg cab 92 pickup...so I decided to make some. I recently switched fenders and doing so took out the antenna, didn't work and not looks a bit cleaner.
Now getting on with it...What you need is an old VCR, tin snips, drill, sheet metal screws, and a few band aids.
Start with the old VCR and remove the top.
I used the radio for the width measurement and it was just a wee bit short but workable. I measured 7" deep and should of made it 6.5" and it would have worked a bit better. I cut it in 3 pieces... I made the left only about 2.5" wide so it will have enough of a brace for the side when they get screwed together.
Take the middle and toss it aside. Cut the sides of each at 6.5" and bend them up to make the back of the box.
Mate them together and drill a few small holes and runs the sheet metal screws through. Keep all digits out of the way and don't let it slide, It'll want to draw blood doing this!!!
All done...
Now measure and drill the hols for the mounting bracts that came off the radio and use the screws from it to mount it. For mine, the top of the bracket lined up with the top of the VCR thingy...I had the front of the brackets set back about 5/8" give or take.
Then just toss it in...
That's how I made a yucky radio into something useful...

Ya, I gotta take it out again to straighten it out some...I'll paint it then. All I had was some grayish primer and didn't feel like waiting for it to dry.
Love the mats they hold a ton of water/mud/yuck...

I do love my tunes don't get me wrong. I guess I'm getting a bit old to have it blasting loud enough to hear over the exhaust. The radio work in the Runner so I'll keep that in. Besides now I have room to mount a CB too!
