Marlin shifter seat replacement (need a quick answer)
I just wrote up a new thread and after all of that effort, I got "timed out" on this site and my message/question never got posted.
Gonna bevery brief this time....seems to happen evey damn time I submit a post.
In the middle of replacing my shifter seat. The new shifter socket is too small to fit onto the ball. I had a feeling it would be from the looks. Don't feel like waiting another couple of weeks for the correct size to come in.
Have any of you ever re-used the old socket with a new Marlin shifter seat??
The old one still moved around pretty smoothly and appears to be in good condition other than being pretty yellow.
I was as careful as I could be pulling it off but, it wasn't easy. It's only slightly scratched up from trying to get it off.

The old was a B! to get off. It took me having my son hold down the handle as I tried every damn tool in my garage to get it off...carefully.
The new one is definitely too small, man or no man. Looks like a fat guy in a little coat and slips right off.
Cool, then I'll re-use the old one. Just wanted another's input.
Thanks!

yes, it does seem smaller, but like yoterr said, just push like hell on it and itll go on. I had to put my shifter upside down in a vice and put all my body weight and force on it.

I have yet to put mine in
I have the Marlin parts but I have not yet had time to put them in. If it won't fit, resue the old on. As long as it is smooth and does not have metal filings in it, should be OK.
As to timing out your posts. Get into the habit of pressing Ctrl+A to highlight the post and Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard before you post. Then if it times out, just start a new post and press Ctrl+V to paste your flowery prose into the new post. It is a hard habit to get into but worth it.

I just wanted to take moment to thank everyone for their replies/opinions/help!
Thank you!!
Also....an update: WOW!!!!!! That new shifter seat made more of a difference than I could have ever imagined. Unbelievable that such a small, simple plastic part can make my truck feel like new again. Kicking myself in the ass for waiting 7 years to replace it.
