Don't waste your time with a tru trac, it is a limited slip.

The tru trac is still expensive, and you will have to take your whole third member apart and re-shim the gears.

They make two for the 7.5" IFS which is what you have. One goes with the on truck with the 4 cyl front diff, one for the V6 diff.

THey also make a TT for the rear.

There is lots of info on TTs on yotatech.

My 86 4Runner is no longer IFS, it has a solid front axle in it now (as in solid axle swap).

I think i will just go with the aussie locker, its very simple and it works, im not a hard core wheeler so it should hold up well for me.

all I know is I had a True-Trac in the back of my 98 ranger. No problems, no noises, nothing. Not even clicking, just awesome traction.

sorry i confused the detroit tru trac with the OX cable pull style lockers. a limited slip would be good also, and should give you a little better turning radius opposed to a full locker

The Aussie will handle EXACTLY like a LockRight (LR). They are auto lockers of the same design. I've had three LR's and two Aussies. I prefer the LR. I moved my Aussie from back to front because it clanks and clunks so bad. Sometimes it unloads so hard I'd look for diff parts in the rear view (yes these were all installed correctly and the cases were within the specified tolerance). Does it work, yes but the LR is much smoother so I moved it from front to rear. Now I'm happy.
