It has happened...

I was at the gas station this evening, getting raped by OPEC, when I realized something strange with my tripometer. I had just finished putting 11 (actually 11.05) gallons of gas in the tank, topping er off, of course . I was amazed at this point, not because the 11 gallons of gas had cost me nearly $40, but the fact that my 4Runner had gone 249 miles on just 11 gallons of gas. That is roughly equal to 23 MPG!!! Actually, it is 22.73, but I like 23 better.

I was not especially easy on it, actually, I was kinda a little harder on the throttle than usual. I follow the EXACT same procedure when refueling, every time. I ALWAYS top off the tank, and I ALWAYS reset the trip before I leave the gas station, and I ALWAYS calculate my MPG before I leave.

If you have an MPG reading you are proud of, you may post it also.

Take that hybrids!!!

Keep in mind, this is a 1994 4Runner with the 3.0, and a 5 Speed.

Don't forget to vote in the MPG poll.

Fully unloaded. fresh tune up. freshly changed transmission filter and fluid with Lucas added. I think it was more like 20.5 something. I drive it easy. No power so what's the point of hammering on it.
Also it was on the interstate for that entire tank of gas.

That's still VERY good. Most AUTO guys are lucky to get 19.

Usually get about 19 on the highway, but city driving is usually about 16. 23 would blow me away!

23 did blow me away. In fact so much, I just had to tell every one about it.

Also, I did use injector cleaner in my last tankful(the one before the 23) and averaged 20.5, if that makes any difference.

yeah stormin94 - Oddly enough that is what I get if I drive only on the highway - but not over 70mph . Anything over 70mph and I get about 18mpg. (1993 3.0L w/Auto tranny)

I used to average 25 mpg in my 93 V6 5-speed.

But then that was claculated using real gallons, not your dinky little American ones.

no the Toyo Open Country are good for 70psi! right now they are at 33psi and it is like a cloud. but with my tires at 33psi i get very bad MPG's. when i have my 265x75's up to 45-48psi, i figure i get around 26mpg as a TOP best average.

18.5 with 22RE, stock gears and 33's.

I'm almost the same with fueling up except I stop once the nozzle clicks off. If I push it or needed to, I can get just over 300 to a tank but I usually fill up at 250. Easier on the wallet.

21 with a 22re 5 spd. what gives... i should be up there... oh well. right now averaging 18ish. its good for a 21 yr old car vs a brand new escalade. haha. yeah, i had the bikini top on too. maybe cheating, but i carry enough tools to make up for the tops weight.

i find that when im on the free way doin 70 i get the best mpg. wierd cause i normally drive part 65 and part 55 where i live and get 17 or 18 and 70 i get like 19...

I'll tell the chippie (california highway patrol, for all you non-cali people) that "i was trying to get a better bang for my buck" the next time he pulls the yellow truck over for speeding.

I dunno the ALL TIME best, but right now i'm averaging 17 MPG...

which is why i drive an 03 corolla more often!

The best that i've actually calculated out was 24mpg mostly highway with a little bit of city. I'm sure I got more than that driving to KC from Dallas when i first picked it up this summer. I'll have to see what it gets straight highway.

Its a 98 taco, 5spd, 2.4L with 97k on it, LCE header and free flow cat.
